Noreaster in Nova Scotia

Our Standard poodle puppy doesn't seem to care that there is a major snow storm happening in Nova Scotia. She found something outside to chew on and is lying down oblivious to the fact that it is freezing out with all the wind and snow.

Winter Storm in Nova Scotia

We were forced to stay inside yesterday due to the large amount of snow so Rosie made some muffins.

For those who may not know it, Brown Standard Poodles act like clowns a lot of the time. That makes them fun to be around.

Wind Storm Nova Scotia

December 13th the weather forecasters were calling for temperatures of plus 16 and strong winds to 100 kilometers per hour. One out of Two is not bad normally but the winds hit 140 at least in the Annapolis Valley. How strong is that. Look and see.

Sky Diving in the Annapolis Valley

Today was a perfect day for sky diving in the Annapolis Valley, so I packed the camera into the bike panniers and rode down to the municipal airport in Waterville to see what was up! Sure enough five young ladies from Newfoundland were trying sky diving for the first time. The owner, a guy named Dave introduced himself and suggested a good area to stand in for pictures. He explained the direction they would come from, and then the group took off in the Cessna 172. Pilot, two instructors and two Newfoundlanders. The other three had already had their turn so this was the last group. Here are some pictures on a beautiful November day in Nova Scotia. Click each picture to enlarge them.

It is always great meeting people who are enjoying themselves, and even more so a person such as Dave who obviously loves what he does!

Lots of Rain the last few days

and more to come. Nova Scotia has lost some bridges and some roads are closed. And to think it will rain for three more days. Not good for a lot of reasons.

Need Some Sun!

Rant finished.

Riding Along the Fundy Shore

Back a day I had an opportunity to take some pictures of some animals I normally don't see. The first one was a porcupine. I went whizzing by him as he crawled along a back road. I stopped and he stopped. Then he went into a defensive posture. He hunched his back towards me and sat still. I had time to mount the zoom lens and snap some pictures while he kept an eye on me. Check out his fangs. I wouldn't tangle with those or the quills. Nasty! Click to enlarge the pictures.

More pictures from Crystal Falls

Here are a few more pictures of the trail going to Crystal Falls near the walking bridge. Click the pictures for a larger view.

Notice the larger rocks that prevented further biking. The falls are less than a kilometer from this spot.

Out for a trail walk today and I saw these animal tracks

Not sure which animal track this is but the nails were very large and they looked like they could do a job with them. Luckily I was a few hours behind these tracks (I hope!) For interest sake that is a size 12 boot. A local mentioned something about Coyotes in the area.

Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia

Just past Lunenburg is the tiny hamlet of Blue Rocks, home to some lobster boats and a great view of the ocean. The road is narrow but it leads to some good photo spots. As usual you will need to click the photos to view them full size.

Tidal Bore in Maitland Nova Scotia, near Truro

May 18 I rode the motorcycle up to Maitland, Nova Scotia and caught the tidal bore. It starts slowly and then the first wave appears shown in the first picture.

Here is the old bridge before the wave hits. Notice the bank is fairly dry and the water level on the support is quite low. This is around 3 pm.

This is a picture of the tidal bore in full motion. The water has risen many feet and the current is very fast. This was taken around 3:20 pm.

Check out the water level at around 3:30 pm. Quite a spectacular show from the tide. Here is a video link if this type of natural event is of interest to you.
