KFC versus the competition

One of these things is not like the other! Recently I grabbed a quick three piece meal at KFC. The picture with the KFC plate should tell you the story. To give you an idea of the sizes; I used standard issue french fries next to the mammoth KFC drumstick on the standard issue KFC paper plate. Compare this picture to the other two pictures.

Today the family enjoyed a 7.25 pound free range chicken for supper. Four of us dined on this chicken and there is enough left over for another sitting with left overs. No I am not a tiny eater - last I checked I was tipping the scales at over 200, and am afraid to go back for anymore checks. Needless to say it is hard to believe the difference. Notice: The last picture shows a real chicken leg on a full size dinner plate. U have to wonder about KFC or more importantly our food chain.

Winter Storm

The weatherman called for 10 centimeters of snow yesterday. He was close? Try 30 plus centimeters or about a foot with blowing snow. The great thing about being a weatherman is you only have to be right half the time. It is up to us to figure out which half is right!

Spring in January

Another day of sunshine in the Annapolis Valley and this little guy came out for bird feed. The wind yesterday blew the top off the bird feeder so he decided to help himself. After filling his cheeks it is off to his home it appears.

Wonderful Winter Day in Canada

Today is one of those rare Warm Winter Days up here in Nova Scotia. The temp hit 9 degrees Celsius, or around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, warm enough for a light fall jacket. The snow is melting after a bucket of rain last night and you can hear the difference when you talk to the locals. Canadians, in case you did not know, love to talk about the weather because we get so much of it. The local saying is if you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes and it will change.

Enjoy your day today, I know I will.

My New Camera - Test Test one two three

This is a test to educate myself on uploading pictures from the camera to the computer to the blog. Nothing fancy here. Just a picture of plastic flowers in the dark at 11 pm. Late at night is a fun time to learn, probably because there are no distractions going on.

Big Savings on an SLR Camera

As the blog mentioned I have been in the market for a good starter SLR camera. I really liked Canon and Nikon, and then I found a stunning deal. On Friday past Best Buy had a half dozen opened boxes with the EOS Rebel T1i in them. Regular price - $899
Sale price was then put to $719
Finally a sticker was over this price at $629 Canadian. Sure enough I grabbed one and headed to the checkout where it in fact came up as $629. What a great deal I would say. Added a memory card, extra zoom lens to come away with a great deal.

It pays to shop hard and do some research. The manual is good, and I am having fun trying different things out with the new camera. The plan is to take some great photos hopefully while out riding on the motorcycle, so stay tuned in. Pictures may appear quicker than you may imagine, despite the fact that I live in Nova Scotia, Canada.

BMW1200's favorite things about shopping ...

When he goes out shopping for an item, this male finds it very important that a sales person uses proper techniques to secure a sale. His current favorites are: 1. Being Rushed   2. Being Ignored   3. Being Treated Poorly

At first he couldn't put his finger on the cause of shopping anxiety; that is until he picked up a copy of Blink. It appears that there is a strong correlation between these sales practices and customer satisfaction. (sarcasm intended). BMW1200 wonders why so many people struggle so much in their jobs, such as sales person. This really CONCERNS him. Of course the sales persons might do better at sales if they were more concerned about customers.

Is it Just me or Is it ...

BMW1200 is getting on his soapbox to vent. It appears he wants a new SLR camera for picture taking on the bike once winter takes off eh. So off to the "camera store" he goes. After the customary greeting he mentions he is in the market for a camera. The salesman immediately says what you want is a Pentax KX for $699.99 cdn.

Really! No question or answer program, like what, who, where, why, etc. Just straight into "I know exactly what you should buy". No matter what is said after that the answer is the same - Pentax KX.

Second store. A little better start, and then BMW1200 starts asking little detailed questions, and all he gets is blank stares, shrug of the shoulders, and I don't know the answer to that question. Oh well. It appears that buying a camera is going to take effort on the bikers part to learn all the answers, as soon as he figures out what all the questions are.

Doesn't anyone care to learn more about their job then is that debit or credit? Brother! Rant is now ended. BMW1200 steps down from soap box.

Are you a BMW motorcycle fan - seems like others are too!

According to just-released Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) reports, BMW Motorrad USA outperformed all of its competitors in 2009. Despite a U.S. motorcycle market that declined 41 percent and lost nearly 360,000 units, BMW motorcycle sales only declined 22 percent, which was the smallest decline among all motorcycle brands. This follows on the heels of 2008 when BMW Motorrad USA was one of only two motorcycle manufacturers to post positive growth. Here is a guy who knows a thing or two about motorcycles that you may not have heard of. c/o bmwmoa.org

motorcycle GPS shopping

BMW1200 went shopping today for some electronic items. Unfortunately no one has heard of; let alone knows anything about GPS's for motorcycles. So he is stuck with online sales, which means no service locally. This is something nice to have in case of troubles.

So now the search begins for an online store purchase in Canada.

Stay tuned.

Sure wish the snow would melt!

It sure makes it tough to go outside and my owner can't even ride the motorcyle when there is snow outside. My tootsies get so cold in the snow. I guess I will lie down next to the fireplace some more and wait patiently for my owner to get back from his JOB.

Mixpod

Just a note to let you know Mixpod has been added to this blog today. Add music to your blog with it. Nice touch if you like music. Select a different song to listen to while reading the latest post if you see something you like. Have a great day.

More Horses for the 2010 GS and GSA - Giddy up

BMW’s 2010 R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure are getting the DOHC, eight valve horizontally opposed twin from the HP2 Sport - power jumps up to 110bhp and 88lb/ft of torque. (2009 GS/GSA was 105bhp)

I absolutely love these bikes and all my friends are rushing over to see the new bike in my garage.

Check out my lens to learn more on the GSA with links to a GPS review as well.

Motorcycle Adventure Book

Well the Christmas season is over and like you I read a lot on my days off. Over the holiday I was able to punch through two similar books; Long Way Round the first book by the authors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, and then the second book Long Way Down. These are books about adventure travel on motorcycles through some off the beaten trail locations around the world.

The second journey (long way down) officially starts in Scotland and heads to the tip of Africa. One thing about me is I am persistent, as the language in both books is how should I put it, not family rated.

The use of Christ's name as a curse word and other expletives seemed out of place, but it doesn't take too long reading the book to realize the two riders whine a lot and little things set off the tirade fairly easily.

If there were redeeming qualities to the books, it would be some of the attention they brought to organizations that are out there in the world trying to help people in need. It is a shame that the riders tone was not better adjusted after these visits to the less fortunate who would never experience a fully funded adventure of this sort.

I believe that a better option to read would be Investment Biker, by Jim Rogers who uses less language and complaining in his book. He had less assistance in his travels compared to the two above it seems and overall I wanted to keep reading his book, vice the other two.

So if you need to know, buy Jim's Book and if you must read the other two be prepared to be offended by the language. 2 stars out of 5 for C and E...

Great Day for a Ride

I just went out for a quick spin on the bike. The temperature outside was below zero celsius or below 32 F.

No wind really so it was quite good, with a bit of gravel on the road to make it interesting. The bike took quite a while to warm up, and I am looking forward to a trip on the bike.

Anybody out there itching to ride their Bike?

New Garmin GPS for motorcycles

This just leaked today.

Zumo 665: Have a rider in the family? The 665 is Garmin's latest motorcycle-centric nav unit, which appears to be little more than a 660 with the XM weather, radio (with A2DP out), and traffic on board. It's got a slightly newer firmware build than the current 660 that adds additional map layouts and data fields; and don't worry, 660 owners -- you'll get it in the Spring.

Great Website for Motorcycle Adventure Riding

Here is a website link that I came across. Very professional and lots of ride reports for motorcycle fans. One video from a couple in New Zealand offers some exceptional quality while they are crusing down the interstate down under.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

The Big 50 finally happened and I write about it on my squid lens. If you are an internet tech savvy guru, you may find my stuff very low tech. If you like motorcycles, and especially BMW's you might enjoy the lens.
